Having your own pool table at home is great. It allows you to enjoy this game of skill whenever you want, and it can quickly make your home the go-to gathering spot for friends and family. However, when the time comes to move the pool table, many people start to second guess their decision to purchase one to begin with.

That's because they are extremely large and heavy, and if you aren't careful, you can easily damage either the table or your home. Here at Big Arm Moving & Delivery, we specialize in moving large items like pool tables, so you can trust our expertise when it comes to transporting yours to a new location.

Tips for moving a pool table to a new location.

Ask for assistance.

While it's certainly possible to disassemble and move a pool table by yourself, it's definitely not recommended. A single table weighs in at around 1,000 pounds, and trying to do everything yourself increases the risk of hurting yourself or your property. Ideally, you'll have at least three other people who can help you break the table down and navigate it through your home and into the moving truck.

Gather all of the necessary supplies.

Once you have your crew assembled, you'll want to make sure you have all of the necessary tools and supplies required for moving a large item like a pool table. On the tool's side of things, you should have a power drill, screwdriver, staple remover, and socket wrench handy. You'll also want thick moving blankets to protect the table and your home, plenty of labels, some type of packing cushion, and bags or boxes for the screws and parts.

Take careful measurements.

Before you start the actual process of breaking down and moving such a large item, you need to be sure that everything can fit through the space you have without causing any damage. Use a measuring tape to find out the dimensions of each doorway, hallway, and stairway and compare them to the dimensions of the table itself. Don't just do the measurements of the pathway you'll need to take to get the table out of your home. You also need to measure everything at the location of where you're moving the table.

Disassemble the table.

While there are universal features to every pool table, that doesn't mean every single one is built exactly the same. So before taking yours apart, it's always recommended that you consult your owner's manual for specific instructions. Generally speaking, though, there is a preferred method to disassembling a pool table. Start by removing the pockets and rails using a screwdriver and socket wrench, then remove the felt and slates with a staple remover and drill. Finally, take off the pool table's legs using the drill.

Carefully secure all pieces.

As your disassembling the table, place the loose screws, nuts, and bolts into plastic bags and add a label that indicates what each piece was used for. For the larger components such as the pockets, bumpers, and legs, you can wrap them in moving blankets to protect them during transit. You can also crate the slates in a wooden box or place them in sturdy cardboard to facilitate the move and avoid damaging the table.
